- Length of time in current role: 4 Years
What are the 3 Key Skills/ attributes to do your role?
Planning and Organisation, Communication, Being a Team Player
What are your hobbies and interest/interesting facts/hidden talents?
I enjoy Socialising, Exercising and I love watching sport (football, Darts).
Can you tell us about your background/education?
After leaving High School with 6 standard Grades, I then went onto College to study travel and tourism. After leaving College I went on to work in a builder merchant for 11 years. Within that time, I started off in an admin role, then went onto a sales support role and then into a sales position working with all buyers and also site managers who were placing orders etc. I then moved to Routeco 6 years ago.
What are your day to day responsibilities in your role?
I currently process orders and quotes. Speak to customers, deal with discount and offer support to the branch supervisor where required. I also support our Peterlee branch and Manchester branch with sale support and training of new staff members.
What made you join Routeco?
The job role being advertised was similar to the role I had done within the builder’s merchant I worked in previously. I thought it was a role I could excel in with the background knowledge I had for the job role advertised. After the interview process and gaining information on the products Routeco sold I was very apprehensive, but I knew within myself I was a quick learner and was looking for the new challenge.
What do you enjoy the most about working at Routeco?
The staff within the Glasgow office are a great team to work with. The variety each day brings within my job role and also the opportunities that have arisen over the past 4 years.
What tips or advice do you have for future Routeco candidates?
Don’t feel nervous to put yourself forward for any new opportunities that you feel maybe suitable to your abilities. If you’re looking for progression within your job role, you need to be confident in going for the opportunities available to you.
What is your career highlight?
Being invested in by Routeco as I have progressed within the 6 years from internal sales, covered the branch supervisor role, currently in the process champion role and this year getting on the TDP programme.
