Routeco take part in Tri for life!

Routeco entered 4 teams into the Woburn Abbey Triathlon on Saturday 8th September which consisted of a 1500m open water swim, 44k Bike ride and a 10km run and raised a generous £500 to support two very worthy causes, the Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital & Melanoma Focus.

Teams were made up of 3 people and consisted of the following people:

Routeco TriæErs – Phil Wilson, Jonathan Bye & Michael Wigglesworth

Team Gold – Angela Mulligan, George Elmes & Ryan McGuinness

The Misfits – James Stewart, Clare Lundberg & William Brown

Tri Guys - Burti Montagu-Leon, Michael McGuinness & John Hunter

Please read below for a brief of how the day went from Michael McGuinness.

"It started off a little wet and windy but there was plenty of excitement and buzz in the Routeco Camp as we all congregated at 10:30am for registration and details of what we were about to embark on. Many of us were first timers so there were nerves and a little fear of the unexpected.

That soon disappeared as we got closer to the start time. We are a competitive bunch and nobody wanted to come last and get the wooden spoon..

The TriæErs & Misfits got off to a great start with the swim of Phil (23 minutes) & James (24 minutes) with Angela also putting in a very impressive time of 27 minutes for Team Gold. Tri Guys brought up the rear with a gutsy swim from Burti (39 minutes) to get us all under way.

Jonathan Bye was first up on the bike, taking the early lead and leaving us for dust. The Misfits soon followed with the experienced and super fit cyclist Clare Lundberg chasing hard... George Elmes from Team Gold didn’t have to wait long before he climbed aboard his bike and this first timer certainly had plenty in the tank to chase the deficit down. Last but not least it was the Tri Guys turn and Michael McGuinness had the road to himself to catch the others up. There was nothing between any of the cyclists which left a very intriguing 10k run for the Routeco Teams.

Jonathan handed the baton over to Michael Wigglesworth, Routeco’s own Marathon runner, to bring Routeco TriæErs home in 1st. George gained a couple of minutes on the bike to move into 2nd and Team Gold’s runner, Ryan McGuinness who had 24hours notice that he was running, put in a respectable time to keep his team in second position. The Misfits runner, William Brown put in a massive effort to get his team over the line in 3rd. Tri Guys runner, John (wizz kid) Hunter battled hard without any training and covered his 10km in the second fastest of the Routeco teams. Alas, there is no bragging rights for the Tri Guys for at least another year!!"

Well done to all who took part!
