Converged Plantwide Ethernet (CPwE) and what it means

CPwE or in other words Converged Plantwide Ethernet is a design and implementation guide that has resulted from collaboration Cisco.jpgbetween Cisco, Rockwell Automation and Panduit. It provides a standard for the application of Ethernet to the industrial workspace and whilst it can be applied to multiple industries, the focus is on manufacturing.

The CPwE document provides design guidance and best practices to deploy a robust, secure, safe, and future-ready network architecture.

CPwE is a proven architectural concept, tested and accredited as a way of rolling out a scalable infrastructure solution via Ethernet, right from the CEO to the plant floor, which in turn cuts costs internally. It is an architecture that provides standard network services to devices and equipment found in modern IACS (Industrial Automation and Control System) applications, and integrates them into the wider enterprise network.

A well designed network based on the architecture laid out by CPwE will inevitably reduce systems downtime, make data more easily accessible and visible across the network and return the benefits that a truly SMART business demands.
